EMSE Suite Workshop

Preceding the Society for Neuroscience 2006 Convention

Hosted jointly by Source Signal Imaging, Cortech Solutions and Georgia Tech

October 11-13, 2006

Marriott Courtyard Atlanta Midtown / GA Tech

Atlanta, GA USA

We are pleased to invite you to a 2-day hands-on EMSE® Suite software workshop Thursday and Friday, October 12-13, 2006 in Atlanta just before the SFN 2006 convention.  This will be a valuable opportunity, both to learn about the software, and to meet with other EMSE users, as well as SSI and Cortech Solutions staff.  We hope you will register to attend!

The workshop is co-hosted by Source Signal Imaging, Cortech Solutions and Dr. Paul Corballis of Georgia Tech.  The workshop, to be given by Richard E. Greenblatt and Mark E. Pflieger of Source Signal Imaging, Inc., will emphasize practical details for using effectively the new features of EMSE® Suite v5.2, including:

Improved tools for ERP/ERF preprocessing and analysis

  • Compressed trial array, an interactive tool that facilitates visual inspection and correction of trials and channels
  • Batch averaging, which permits the user automatically to train the software on averaging procedures while exploring the data, then apply the training to additional datasets
  • Peak detection, which may be used to automate the export of features such as latency and amplitude to be used for e.g., ANOVA analysis

Added functional connectivity tools

  • Dynamic Imaging of Coherence Sources (DICS) , a new tools for source space connectivity analysis o Wavelet-based phase synchronization estimation in signal space or source space

Additional time series display features

  • one-click single channel display
  • channel display reordering
  • copy-and-paste display preferences

We also will review some of the most significant features of the software, including

  • Basic EMSE software functionality for time series (e.g., filtering, averaging) and image data (e.g., importing scanner data, creating and viewing volumetric datasets)
  • Beamformers, and other source estimation techniques for both source location and time series estimation
  • Non-parametric statistical mapping, in both time and frequency domains
  • MRI processing, brain extraction and realistic (BEM/FEM) model building

Optional topics may include

  • Automatic identification of interictal spikes (ASpiRe algorithm)
  • ECoG visualization

Please let us know if you have a special interest in these or other topics.

Who Should Attend

The workshop is intended to be useful for both new and experienced EMSE users, as well as those potential users who wish more information regarding either the software or the principles of multimodal source estimation, as implemented in EMSE Suite.  Experienced functional brain imagers who want specific information regarding analysis techniques for EEG/MEG-based brain dynamics studies will also find the workshop to be of value.

Format

The workshop consists of lectures, software demos, discussion and labs.  Bring your laptop, and you can install our new software.  In addition, you can bring your own data or use sample data that we will provide.

Cost and Registration

The cost of the workshop is $250 per person to help defray expenses.  Advance registration is strongly recommended, since space is limited.  To reserve a place, or request additional information, please visit the registration link below.

Air Travel to Atlanta

Airfare, hotel and other travel expenses are not included in the registration fee, so attendees should make their own travel arrangements.  Atlanta is a hub for Delta Airlines, so you may find that Delta offers the most convenient itineraries in- and out-of Atlanta.

Venue

The workshop will be held at the Marriott Courtyard Atlanta Midtown / GA Tech.  See http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/ATLMN for more information about the venue.

Hotel Accommodations

The Marriott Courtyard Atlanta Midtown / GA Tech is one of the designated hotels for the SFN 2006 convention, so if you will attend both the EMSE workshop and the SFN 2006, you may prefer to make your reservation at the Marriott Courtyard for the duration of the two meetings.  Contact the hotel by phone at 404-607-1112 for rates and reservations.   Obviously, there are plenty of other hotel options in Atlanta.  It is not necessary to book at room at the conference hotel, but it will certainly be the most convenient option, and would eliminate the need to rent a car.

Registration

To register for the workshop, visit the on-line registration form.
