ActiveTwo Users: Upgrade to ActiveThree or retrofit your AD box to A2.5 before Spring 2026

Take This Opportunity to Make the Most of Your Investment in ActiveTwo

The ActiveTwo system was produced until 2024, and it was originally made with Mk2 electrode connectors. Unfortunately, the company producing these connectors (Tyco) stopped producing them.

As a result, Biosemi was forced to use the a new Mk3 type connector for all new systems (Active2.5 and Active3).

Electrode sets with Mk2 connectors (ActiveTwo) will no longer be available after about March of 2026.
Upgrades for ActiveTwo (extra channels, extra sensor inputs, daisy-chain ports, and high-speed firmware, etc.) will no longer be available after December 31, 2025.

These two two side-by-side images illustrate the differences between Mk2 and Mk3 connectors on the electrode cable and on the AD box top.

We are pleased to offer two attractive upgrade paths:

Get a 40% Trade-in Credit on the ActiveThree Base System When You Trade-In Your ActiveTwo Base System (Valid until Dec. 31, 2026)

Trade in your ActiveTwo Base System and get a 40% discount on a new ActiveThree Base System and the same number of Amplifier/Converter Modules (same number of channels). This is a time-limited offer that will expire at the end of 2026.

ActiveThree System in Carrying Case
ActiveThree System in Carrying Case
  • Gain access to the latest AD-box technology.
  • Biosemi guarantees support and ActiView software updates for at least the next 10 years.
  • Continue to use any existing head-caps, analysis software, and trigger cables — ActiveThree is backwards compatible with these items.
  • If your electrode sets have the new Mk3 connector and the PCB in the active electrodes is red rather than green, you can use them with ActiveThree. Most likely, you will need new electrode sets and auxiliary sensors, since the old ones will not work with ActiveThree.
  • You pay the cost to return the old system (ActiveOne or ActiveTwo) to Biosemi.

Every new ActiveThree AD box comes with six AUX inputs pre-installed and ready to use. The new ActiView software automatically detects the types of sensors installed, so any combination of sensors may be connected. You just buy the sensor with cable.

Please note that older electrode sets used with ActiveTwo will most likely need to be replaced, since ActiveTwo electrode sets contained PCBs with older technology. There may be some rare exceptions, however. If you have purchased new electrode sets in the last year, there is a chance that they may be compatible with ActiveThree (or they could be made compatible by changing the connector in the case of ribbon cables) if they have RED PCBs as illustrated below.

Electrodes with a red PCB work with ActiveThree and ActiveTwo,
and electrodes with a green PCB work only with ActiveTwo

Upgrade to Active2.5

ActiveTwo systems with serial number ADC16 or higher may have a new AD box top and input board installed to support Mk3 connectors (required for new electrodes purchased after March 2026).

ActiveTwo with the A2.5 upgrade
  • Cheaper than upgrading to ActiveThree
  • Less advanced system than the ActiveThree
  • Total cost under $4000 when we also replace the connectors on your existing electrode sets

This upgrade involves:

  • Change the input board with connectors and the top housing of your ActiveTwo system
  • Change all the connectors of your electrode sets to Mk3 connectors.
  • Remove the CMS/DRL from any P32 A set and supply a new CMS/DRL pin-type electrode cable for each one removed. The ActiveTwo system with the A2.5 upgrade does not support electrode sets with integrated CMS/DRL.

Note that you must trade-in a complete base system, which includes the AD box, optical receiver / USB interface, two battery units, battery charger with AD/DC adapter, optical cable, USB cable, and carrying case.

If you want to upgrade your ActiveTwo to ActiveThree then please provide the following information:

  • The serial number of your AD-box from the label on the bottom of the AD box (not the bottom of the battery).
  • A screenshot from ActiView’s Offsets tab with the AD box on, no electrodes or CMS/DRL connected, Start button pressed, and channels at left set to All. This will confirm how many channels are installed.

ActiveTwo A2 > A2.5 Upgrade

If you want to upgrade your ActiveTwo to an A2.5 then please use our Request Info form linked above or via the button below, and provide the following information:

  • The serial number of your AD-box from the label on the bottom of the AD box (not the bottom of the battery). Only AD-boxes with serial number ADC16 and higher can be upgraded to A2.5.
