Introducing LUMO: Wearable Neuroimaging System
The World’s Lightest, Fastest Whole-Head HD-DOT System
We are pleased to announce our appointment as the US distributor for Gowerlabs, allowing us to bring the powerful LUMO whole-head HD-DOT system to US research labs!
Suitable for all ages & environments
With headgear from neonates to adults, LUMO adapts to all research environments, from the home to the hospital and beyond.
fMRI-level spatial resolution
High-resolution functional neuroimaging with a spatial resolution comparable to fMRI, enabled by thousands of overlapping and multidistance channels.
< 60 second setup time
LUMO’s compact headgear can be put on and set up in under 60 seconds.
Unprecedented modularity and scalability
LUMO seamlessly expands as your research evolves; users can easily add caps or tiles for custom cortical coverage, or share the system across different research groups.
Reduced motion artefacts
LUMO’s low-profile design drastically reduces motion artifacts from fibre or headgear movement.
Cost effective high-density design
Compared with low-density systems, LUMO’s effective cost per channel is much lower, while providing data of significantly higher quality.
World leading research
Backed by an extensive body of groundbreaking research, including the first ever whole-head optical imaging of the awake infant brain.
Key Features
Ultra-Lightweight
Each tile weighs less than 6 g. A 12-tile cap weighs 240 g, and our whole-head adult cap weighs only 810 g.
Wearable with Minimal Cabling
Connects via lightweight, 2 m flexible cables (3 mm diameter) for ease of movement. A wireless hub is under development, with release planned for the end of 2026.
Excellent Optical Coupling
Our unique sprung light guides comb through hair to provide optimal scalp coupling and comfort for different head shapes, sizes, and hair types.
Blocks Ambient Light
Our custom optical filters are designed to effectively block ambient light, to ensure the highest signal quality under all lighting conditions, and prevent detector saturation.
Custom Layouts & Sizing
Target specific regions with 3 to 54 docks per cap. All caps are made to order with bespoke modifications available (e.g., cut-outs, velcro straps).
Ultra-High Dynamic Range
Our 120 dB dynamic range enables source-detector separations between 10–70 mm.
Integrated Motion Tracking
A 6-axis inertial measurement unit on each tile records accelerometer and gyroscope data at 100 Hz.
Low Power Consumption
The whole-head cap consumes less than 12 W. Intuitive Software Our data acquisition software provides 2D and 3D system views to monitor thousands of channels in real-time, assess optode coupling, and review data quality metrics.
High Speed Data Acquisition
High-density imaging at up to 12.5 frames per second.
Physiological Noise Reduction
Short-separation channels are evenly distributed across the entire field of view, enabling localised regression of physiological noise arising from the scalp and skull.
Advanced Co-Registration
Designed for use with 3D positioning systems such as Polhemus Patriot and photogrammetry.
Easy Data Export
Data is available in NIRS or SNIRF formats for use in open-source toolboxes like Homer2/3 and NeuroDOT.
Hyperscanning Ready
Quick and easy setup to scan any number of subjects simultaneously.
Lab Streaming Layer Compatible
Enables real-time fNIRS and auxiliary data streaming, event marking, and synchronisation with multimodal setups (e.g. eye trackers, VR headsets).
